Gotthard-Base-Tunnel (CH)

10 October 2018

With a length of 57 km, the Gotthard Base Tunnel is the longest railway tunnel in the world and was opened in 2016. It crosses the Swiss Alps in a north-south direction and runs up to 2300 metres under rock. It consists of two separate tubes and an additional escape tube. The first WMW components were installed in 2002 .

Mission

Our mission was to equip the reloading station. The concrete had to be transported to the various means of transport such as wagons, mixing units or "trucks".  We are therefore the link between the mixing plant and the tunnel. Depending on the construction phase, approx. 1000 m³ of fresh concrete was loaded daily from this plant 7 days a week (24/7). This is probably one of the toughest demands made on machines. Link zum Alptransit

Worth mentioning

We would also like to mention the lid lifter design for the automatic opening of the TGM12 secondary mixers from Mühlhäuser, which are used here for the first time.
They had to lift the lids and swivel them to the side to allow them to be filled quickly.
